Two connected rooms under one wide roof mean the family stays one party without living in one another's pockets — doors close, lamps go down at different hours, and nobody negotiates a single mirror before a dawn drive.
The verandah is the chalet's real living room: breakfast table, field classroom, card table, and the place where the day's elephant count is argued over before bed.
