We built slowly, so the jungle wouldn’t notice.

Muwan Palassa is a small family lodge in the tank country near Habarana — a handful of chalets raised from clay, lime and timber, ten minutes from the gates of Minneriya National Park.

A house in the trees, kept by its own people.

Muwan Palassa began as one family’s corner of the jungle — and it still is one. Small on purpose, slow on principle, and answerable first to the landscape it sits in.

The chalets stand where the trees allowed them to. They were raised with craftspeople from the surrounding villages, out of the landscape’s own materials — clay, lime plaster, timber the colour of shade — so that the buildings would age the way the place does: quietly.

Nothing here is a chain, a franchise or a formula. When you write to us, a member of the household answers. When something is cooked, someone’s grandmother taught the recipe. That is the whole business model, and we intend to keep it.

Quiet promises, kept daily.

Eco-luxury is an easy phrase and a hard practice. Ours is simple: take as little as possible from the place, and give as much as possible back to the people who belong to it.

Light feet

The chalets were set between the trees, not instead of them. The paths are sand, the walls are clay and lime, and the night stays dark enough to read the stars by.

The elephants were here long before the lodge, moving between Minneriya and Kaudulla on roads older than any map. Living ten minutes from the Gathering is a privilege with terms attached: we keep our lights low, our footprint small and our guests on the respectful side of wonder.
